Well, I will come clean regarding my holiday eating habits.... I baked a lot, ate frequently and well, and have about 3-4 extra pounds to show for it. I actually had acquired 6 extra pounds, but have lost 2.5 of them this week. I fear that my January statistics on the 15th will have me breaking even at best for the month.
I have spent the last few days slowly reducing the carby treats from my diet (and removing them from my refrigerator and cupboards), increasing my protein, and am ready to be back into my normal routine when I return to work tomorrow, so I am not actually too concerned about the weight gain - I suspect that a bit of it is water that will go away soon.
Yesterday, I did something that I NEVER could have done a year ago. My husband, daughter and I joined some friends for a day of snowshoeing at Mt Seymour Provincial Park, about a half hour's drive from our home. I had anticipated an easy trek on mostly flat terrain, and was a bit alarmed to discover that the plan was to snowshoe UP to the first peak of Mt Seymour. It was fairly demanding - lots of hills and a small bit of going off trail. I didn't do the last 40 minutes or so up to the peak, I was getting sore and am prone to vertigo, so it just didn't seem fun. All in all, I spent about 5 hours hiking and, although I was very tired and sore at the end of the day, I never felt as if I physically couldn't do the hike.

All in all it was a beautiful clear sunny day, up in the woods and the snow, spent enjoying doing an activity that I would have been utterly unable to do just one year ago ... Happy New Year indeed!!!
